Our HTC M7 release date, specs & price rumours article will grow to accommodate even more speculation as we approach the release date. So save this page and keep checking back for regular updates

HTC is mere days away from revealing its latest flagship smartphone, which is expected to be known as either the HTC M7 or HTC One (something). We've heard plenty of rumours and leaks over the past few weeks, which we've collected here.

HTC M7 NAME
Although initial leaks referred to the device as the M7, HTC CEO Peter Chou mentioned the HTC One name when he revealed the handset early at an internal company event in Taipei. Engadget spotted the video and translated his comments, which hinted at a possible name change.

Should HTC stick with the One branding, it could confuse customers who already have to choose between the One X, One X+, One S, One SV, One V and One XL.

HTC M7 SCREEN
It was originally anticipated that the M7 would have a 5in display, putting it on par with the Sony Xperia Z, Huawei Ascend D2 and ZTE Grand S, but a new wave of rumours have pointed to a 4.7in screen - the same size as the One X and One X+. However, it is expected to have a Full HD 1080p resolution - giving it more pixels per inch than the competition.

HTC has used AMOLED display technology in the past, but made the switch to super LCD a few years ago. The M7 is expected to continue this trend, although we won't know for sure until the official unveiling.

HTC M7 DESIGN
Several images purporting to be the M7 have appeared online in the run up to the phone's official launch, but as we get closer to release the leaks are becoming more consistent. Original leaks from Pocketnow suggested the M7 will closely resemble the Windows Phone 8-powered HTC 8X, with rounded corners and and a smooth curved rear, but newer photos, courtesy of twitter user @evleaks, show a sleek metal body with machined speaker grilles and two hardware buttons instead of the usual three.

Leaks from different sources have revealed two potential colours - black and gunmetal silver. There may be others to follow, but it could be a sign that HTC has given up on the matt plastic finish it used for the One series of phones.

HTC M7 OPERATING SYSTEM
The pre-release images seen above also give us a possible early glimpse at the latest iteration of HTC's Sense interface. It shows a more streamlined, minimalist layout with monotone widgets and a redesigned set of icons. There also appears to be large, rectangular shortcut icons that are reminiscent of the Live Tiles interface found on Windows Phone 8.

HTC M7

Although most early leaks have pointed to Android Jelly Bean, there's no clue as to whether it will be 4.1 or 4.2. With Google saving the latest version of its operating system for its own Nexus-branded devices, we would be surprised if HTC had managed to secure version 4.2 in time for an expected March release.

HTC M7 CAMERA
When HTC released an infographic hinting at a "new sound and camera experience" for 2013, it added to rumours the company was working on a new camera that will use Ultrapixel technology.

Ultrapixel technology apparently uses multiple sensors to combine several shots into one for the best possible image. This pixel sampling technology could mean better low light photography, high resolution images or more detailed, smaller resolution ones - we'll have to wait to see what HTC confirms before we'll know for sure, but it looks to be competition for Nokia's Pureview camera.

HTC M7 PROCESSOR AND 4G
Although HTC used two different processors for the American and International One X handset (due to LTE/4G compatibility), rumours are pointing to a single CPU for the M7. It is likely to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chip running at 1.7GHz, along with 2GB of RAM to power whichever version of Android HTC opts to use. Such a chipset would ensure support for 4G networks in the UK.

HTC M7 STORAGE
If HTC stays true to form, the M7 will likely come with 32GB of internal storage but lack any form of MicroSD card expansion. Both previous flagship handsets, the One X and One X+, only had internal storage, and we don't expect this to change with the new model.

HTC M7 PRICE
As a Full HD smartphone, we fully expect the M7 to enter at the top end of the smartphone market. With similar phones costing upwards of £450, HTC will probably follow suit rather than try and undercut the competition.

HTC M7 RELEASE DATE
HTC posted a countdown clock to its US homepage last week, with the timer counting towards the launch event on the 19th of February. We'll give you hands-on coverage of the handset on the day of launch.

HTC Countdown

HTC needs to get its new flagship on sale as quickly as possible, as it faces stiff competition from the likes of Sony's Xperia Z which goes on sale on the 28th of February. Mobile World Congress is also right around the corner, and both Samsung and Google are expected to announce their new handsets at events in the coming months. The latest rumour is that it will appear in shops on the 8th of March.
